Writing Content
Writing is a skill, not a subject area. However, there are several skills that also serve as topics around which the K/1 writing curriculum is organized:
  • elements of good writing—how to hook a reader—by using beginning, middle, and end, problems, characters, delicious, delightful, describing words, and sequencing
  • to use basic mechanics of writing such as the period and explanation mark, question marks, spacing between words, and beginning capitalization.
  • handwriting with proper letter formation and pencil grip
  • beginning editing
  • spelling with conventional and invented words
