"...do you sit down in true
silence, resting from your own will and workings, and waiting upon the Lord...
until the Lord breathes life into you, refresheth you, and prepares you,
and your spirits... for his service ...?" |

The State College Friends School
opened in 1980 in the basement of the State College Friends Meeting as a K-3
program with ten students and two part-time teachers. A small group of dedicated
parents and Meeting members supplied the vision and energy needed to launch
the new school.

The Friends School and Friends Meeting are separately
incorporated, but the school operates "under the care of" State College
Friends Meeting. This sponsorship includes the spiritual oversight of the school
through Quaker trustees and the Meeting's Worship & Ministry Committee. Through
the Meeting, Friends School also benefits from the institutional support provided
by the Friends Council on Education and the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting.
Today many Friends School students are members
or attenders of the Friends Meeting. And many families have become aquainted
with the Friends Meeting and Friend's practice through participation in the
school community.
